I found this one today, and yeah its solitaire... so what! The difference with this version is that its javascript based, it doesn't use flash or anything like that to make the animations, but rather the YUI library amongst other things. Built by one dude, this is the best implementation of solitaire in a browser I have seen to date. You probably need to understand a bit about javascript to really admire it, but its fun none the less to play a round of solitaire anyway. Its not just solitaire either, but a stack of other games are accessible from the menu. Nicely built with smooth animations, works just like the real thing!
Work Well Together
If you look at where the web was a couple years ago, to where it is now, it is amazing to see the progressions made in standards and just general good design. Of course there is still much to improve, and yes, there is always a few rough edges here and there, but you get the idea. One newer idea for web design, to my knowledge anyway, is to design with a vertical rhythm to bring a subtle beauty to the design. It is basically a method of calculating line heights so that your fonts and different sizes line up horizontally to give you a vertical rhythm. There is a few good articles out there floating around about it, so I'm not going to go into any detail about that, but wanted to highlight a tool I found to help with the calculations... well actually, a tool that will do all the calculations.
Last week I posted about Gravity Pods, a new addictive little flash game I came across in the Tubes. After some hiccups I have finally made it up to level 50. I'm yet to master the final level, multiple moving walls are not much fun, but wanted to repost just to say if you haven't yet, give this game a go... its very well made, and good fun!
If anyone knows of a good complete listings, let me know!
7 Character sets you didn't know your browser could render
William Kamkwamba, a 19 year old youth from Malawi, Africa, had to leave school because he lacked the money to pay for his tuition. Instead of doing, well whatever he wanted, he headed to his public library and started teaching himself through books. One book he found covered windmills that generated electricity, which he used to build his own version in order to provide power for his home. This has dramatically changed the lives of his community, as well as his own as he has become relatively famous due to his sheer determination and entrepreneurial skills.
Its a great story, and shows that even simple resources can bring amazing results. I'd also recommend bookmarking the inhabitat blog as well, its quite an amazing resource for all things green!

The aim of the game is simple... get the projectile to hit the target by using gravity pods and repellers... But don't let that fool you! This one is all about precision... precision and a free schedule. I got up to level 18 before I had to pry myself away from the keyboard, but no doubt I will be back at it again tomorrow.
Come to think of it, you are looking a bit ill right now, maybe you should call in sick today!
Play Gravity Pods
This is another cool little animation from Pixar. I've always been a fan of their shorts, and this is no exception. From what I have read, it airs before Ratatouille which is in cinemas now.
